Bongos or Atabaques?
Feynman is often described as a bongo player - what the picture shows are not bongo drums, but atabaques. Bongos are two small drums held between the knees, one slightly larger than the other, used in Cuban musical styles (e.g. son, mambo, cha-cha-cha etc. etc.). Atabaques, pictured here, are similar to Cuban congas, larger floor-standing drums. I would guess that what this group is doing may be a show based on the music of the Candomble' tradition (Candomble' is a religion brought over to Brazil from Africa, rather like Haitian vodun and Cuban Santeria).
